Farewell Tawaf

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I was residing in Jeddah and performed Hajj several times in succession, and between each Hajj I performed 'Umrah. However, I did not perform the farewell tawaf. When I wanted to travel to Yemen, I performed 'Umrah and did the farewell tawaf. Does this tawaf suffice for the previous times I performed Hajj without a farewell tawaf, or is something else required of me? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer: As for Hajj, the farewell tawaf is obligatory in it, and it is among its final acts, due to his saying:
The people were commanded (by the Holy Prophet) to perform the last circumambulation round the House, but menstruating women were exempted.أمروا أن يكون آخر عهدهم بالبيت إلا أنه خفف عن المرأة الحائض
Sahih Muslim 1328a
So, if the pilgrim leaves it and exits Makkah to his country or his place of residence,
then he must pay an expiation if he does not return from a short distance. If he continues his exit and travel until he reaches the distance of shortening the prayer or more, then he must offer a sacrificial animal for leaving the farewell tawaf. Accordingly, if your intention was that you would perform Hajj several times and exit to your workplace in Jeddah without taking leave after Hajj, then you owe an expiation for every time you performed Hajj and did not perform the farewell tawaf. This is done by slaughtering a sheep and distributing it to the poor of Makkah, the poor of the Haram.
As for 'Umrah, in the correct opinion, it has no farewell tawaf; rather, the farewell tawaf is only among the obligations of Hajj.
