Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : There are also some groups ... where this happens, for example, in remote farms or in the outskirts of cities or in villages, where they pay a wage to some imams to come and lead them in prayer. If they pay a simple wage and this imam does not come, what is the ruling on this gathering of Muslims?

The Shaykh : The same ruling applies to this.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : If this man takes this amount of money to help him reach this village or this farm or something similar, such as the fare for a car or the cost of gasoline if the car is his, then there is nothing wrong with it. But if the money is his ultimate goal, then that is what is forbidden. The standard is that actions are by intentions.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : So whoever’s intention is the money rather than the righteous deed, he has no reward and is to be blamed for it. And whoever’s intention is the righteous deed and he makes the money a means to it, then he is not to be blamed and there is no harm in it for him.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
