Question:
We also received a message from one of our esteemed listeners. The listener, the beneficiary Muhammad Uthman Salama, says in his question: We work in a farm located about five kilometers from the cities, and the number of men is fifteen. Is it permissible for us to perform the Friday prayer or not? I am proficient in delivering the sermon—praise be to Allah—and I have with me a portion of the Qur'an, some religious hadiths, and some supplications.
We ask you to inform us whether we should establish the Friday prayer or not.
Answer:
If the farm is inhabited by its residents, and they reside in it in winter and summer, being settled there, and they are three or more, then it is obligatory for them to establish the Friday prayer, and whoever attends prays with them. However, if it is a temporary place where they stay for days or a period for agriculture, then they descend to the town, and it is not a place of settlement or residence, then the Friday prayer is not established there; because it is not a homeland, nor a place of settlement, and they are far from the Friday prayer, so the Friday prayer is dropped from them due to their distance, and they pray the midday prayer.
As for if they are settled residents in it in winter and summer, having built dwellings in it and established themselves in it; they pray the Friday prayer if they are settled, if they are three or more, yes.
