The questioner : Is there a prayer for every day and every night, such as the prayer of the night of Sunday, which consists of four rak'ahs in which we recite al-Ikhlas three times and seek forgiveness after the prayer seventy times, and the prayer of the day of Sunday, which consists of four rak'ahs in which the reciter reads
The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him ءامن الرسول بما أنزل إليه
[Al-Baqarah 2:285]
once, and reads
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, قل هو الله أحد
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
ten times after the prayer? And is it established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he did so?

The Shaykh : May Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

The questioner : That he actually used to pray it? We ask for a detailed answer to this question?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah. This prayer that the questioner mentioned for the night of Sunday and the day of Sunday has no basis in the Shari'ah; it is a religious innovation (bid'ah), and every innovation is misguidance. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do it, nor did he guide his Ummah to do it, nor did he approve of any of his Companions doing it. When these three things are absent—the verbal, practical, and approving Sunnah—it becomes clear that it is among the innovations.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : This is because anything by which a person worships, meaning by which he seeks nearness to his Lord and takes it as a religion, and which has no basis in the Shari'ah, is an innovation and misguidance, from which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) warned.

The questioner : O Allah, send blessings and peace upon him.

The Shaykh : There is no difference in this between what is newly introduced in prayer, charity, fasting, or anything else. Every deed by which a person seeks nearness to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) must have a basis in the Shari'ah.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : This is because acts of worship are built upon two fundamental essentials that are necessary: sincerity to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). To this, Allah the Exalted pointed in His saying:
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion. وما أمروا إلا ليعبدوا الله مخلصين له الدين حنفاء ويقيموا الصلاة ويؤتوا الزكاة وذلك دين القيمة
[Al-Bayyinah 98:5]
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Therefore, adherence to the pure monotheistic faith (hanifiyyah) is necessary, and sincerity is necessary. Hanifiyyah is the Shari'ah, following it, and not deviating from it to the right or to the left. My advice to this woman and to others who love good is that they should not perform a religious deed, or to put it more clearly, that they should not perform a deed by which they seek nearness to Allah until they know that it has a basis in the Shari'ah, so that it may be acceptable to Allah (Mighty and Majestic).

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected. من عمل عملا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
, meaning it is rejected from its doer. No matter how much the doer thinks the deed is good, there is no good in it if it is not in accordance with the Islamic Shari'ah.

The questioner : Yes, you have done well.
