What is Recited in the Tarawih Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 18364 )
Q1: Some of the imams of the mosques recite in the tarawih prayer , after al-Fatihah, from the long surahs or the middle ones in the first rak'ah, and in the second rak'ah they recite Surah al-Ikhlas after al-Fatihah, and they do this consistently. Is this action permissible, given that after every four rak'ahs they make a collective supplication such as saying: (O Allah, You are the Pardoner and You love pardon, so pardon us)? What is your opinion, Your Eminence, on this action?
A1: It is better in the tarawih prayer to begin the Qur'an from its beginning
and continue until one completes it at the end of the month, as the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to do. If one limits oneself to reciting part of the Qur'an, that is permissible, but one should not designate specific surahs to recite only from them. It is not permissible to make a collective supplication after every four rak'ahs, because this is a religious innovation for which there is no evidence from the Book or the Sunnah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
