The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah. Idtiba' is only performed in the arrival tawaf, which is the tawaf performed first when a person arrives in Makkah, whether it is the tawaf of 'Umrah or the arrival tawaf for the one performing Qiran or Ifrad.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : There is no idtiba' in the farewell tawaf, because in the farewell tawaf the person has already put on his usual clothes, so there is no place for idtiba' here.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : In any case, the fact that this man also reversed the idtiba' by exposing his left shoulder instead of his right shoulder is something for which he is excused, and Allah the Exalted will reward him for his intention. However, he did not accomplish the act, so he receives no reward for the act itself; he only receives reward for the intention with which he sought to align with the correct action, though he was not successful in doing so.
