Light on the Path-011b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I am a student at school, twenty years old, studying outside the country where I grew up. My studies end half an hour after the midday prayer, and I do not work. First, is it permissible for me to delay the prayer or the congregational prayer while I am at school?

The Shaykh : The congregational prayer is obligatory for a person unless he suffers harm in his livelihood that he needs, or something similar. If leaving the classroom for the congregational prayer causes him harm, there is no blame on him for remaining in the classroom. If it does not cause him harm, it is obligatory for him to pray with the congregation. Then, if it is possible, he and his classmates should pray as a congregation after the lesson ends; this is easier and lighter. Many scholars say that the congregation is not obligatory to perform in mosques, although the stronger position is that the congregation must be prayed in the mosques prepared for it, as was the custom of the righteous predecessors, the Companions and the Successors.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
On this occasion, I can only thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its attention to this program, which addresses the problems of Muslims.
We also return your thanks, Salim, and we say that this is obligatory. We welcome all questions and inquiries that reach us from Muslims.
This message is from its author, the student who signed with B.Y.A. from As-Saqab in Syria.
