The questioner : What is the ruling on habitually eating onions or garlic before the 'Isha' prayer, as this leads to missing the 'Isha' prayer in congregation?
The Shaykh : Naturally, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:, it does not mean that a Muslim should take eating garlic or onions as an excuse to refrain from prayer. Rather, this is a punishment from the Wise Lawgiver, through the tongue of His noble Prophet, a punishment for him by depriving him of witnessing the prayer that elevates his prayer by twenty-seven degrees. If he does so while being mindful of the ruling, he is sinful, because he engaged in the cause that prevents him from praying in congregation.
The Shaykh : Naturally, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever eats from this foul plant, let him not approach our place of prayer, for the angels are distressed by what the sons of Adam are distressed by.
من أكل من هذه الشَّجرة الخبيثة فلا يقربَنَّ مصلَّانا ؛ فإن الملائكة تتأذَّى مما يتأذَّى منه بنو آدم
