Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on habitually eating onions or garlic before the 'Isha' prayer, and this leads to missing the 'Isha' prayer in congregation?

The Shaykh : Naturally, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever eats from this foul plant, let him not approach our mosque, for the angels are distressed by what the children of Adam are distressed by. من أكل من هذه الشجرة الخبيثة فلا يقربن مصلانا فإن الملائكة تتأذى مما يتأذى منه بنوا آدم
, it does not mean that a Muslim should take eating garlic or onions as an excuse to refrain from prayer. Rather, this is a punishment from the Wise Lawgiver, on the tongue of the Noble Prophet, a punishment for him that deprives him of witnessing the prayer that elevates his prayer by twenty-seven degrees. So if he is mindful of this, he is sinful because he is engaging in the cause that prevents him from praying in congregation.
