One who enters the mosque and prays the greeting of the mosque, then leaves for a simple need; does he repeat the greeting?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : There is more than one question here, my brother. In the statement, there are examples of a single issue: One who enters the mosque and prays the greeting of the mosque, then leaves for a simple need; does he repeat the greeting? And what about one who rides in a car, says the supplication for riding, then gets out for a simple need; does he say the supplication a second time? And what about one who intended to sleep, slept, and said the supplication, then got up and returned to his bed?

The Shaykh : The apparent ruling regarding this repetition in these examples is that it applies only to the issue of the greeting, and that is in one specific case: if he enters the mosque and prays the greeting, then leaves, and then quickly returns to it. If he intends to sit, he must pray the greeting, no matter how many times he enters and exits, because of the condition, which is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
If anyone of you enters a Mosque, he should not sit until he has offered a tworak` at prayer. إذا دخل أحدكم المسجد فلا يجلِسْ حتى يصلي ركعتين
Sahih al-Bukhari 1167
. So whenever there is entry and sitting, he must pray the greeting. However, if he enters and does not sit, there is no harm in leaving off the greeting. As for the other examples, I do not find in the Sunnah anything that confirms that he should say them on every occasion of riding or similar examples. The story of the hadith of the greeting differs completely from the other examples.

The questioner : As for the one who left the mosque to go perform wudu...

The Shaykh : If the place where he performed wudu is not considered part of the mosque, he is not obligated to repeat the greeting. However, if it is not part of the mosque, the answer has already been made clear.

The questioner : When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw off Safiyyah.

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw off Safiyyah, then returned to the mosque; does this imply from the generality of the hadith that he initially performed the greeting?

The Shaykh : May Allah forgive you; if you had paid attention to my detail, it would have saved you from directing your question to me. Because I said that if he enters the mosque and does not sit, there is no objection to leaving off the greeting. And in the hadith, when the Messenger (peace be upon him) went out to bid farewell to Safiyyah and return her to her house, then returned to his house (peace be upon him); it does not state that he sat in the mosque. Therefore, the question is not applicable.
