The Shaykh : So we move on to the hadith numbered 344. This hadith is narrated by the author (may Allah have mercy on him) with his authentic chain of narration, from Muhammad. He said: "From Muhammad, he said: 'They used to say: Do not honor your friend with what is burdensome for him.'" Here we find that the chain of narration ends with a man named Muhammad who said, "They used to say." This Muhammad is not our Prophet (peace be upon him), but rather Muhammad ibn Sirin. We know this by looking at the one who narrated from him, for it was narrated through the route of Ibn 'Unayn from Muhammad, and the Muhammad here is Ibn Sirin. Muhammad ibn Sirin is a man among the distinguished of the Tabi'un (the generation after the Companions) and among the narrators from a group of the Companions, and indeed he is one of those who narrated extensively from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in particular. He is the one to whom a book is attributed regarding the interpretation of dreams: "Ta'tir al-Anam bi-Tafsir al-Manam" (Perfuming the People with the Interpretation of Dreams). However, the attribution of this book to him is not correct. The truth is that he is famous for being inspired in the interpretation of dreams; he would mention a great deal, and the scholars of hadith speak of him with reliable narrations. As for this book attributed to him and printed under the title "Ta'tir al-Anam," its attribution to him is not correct. What concerns us here is to know that the Muhammad here is Ibn Sirin first, and that he is among the distinguished of the Tabi'un in knowledge, trustworthiness, and virtue.
