Explanation of the Chapter

The Shaykh : Then we have here a new hadith or chapter. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on the two who exchange insults: whatever they say is upon the first one." What does this chapter mean? It is a part of a hadith mentioned below it, where two people are quarreling with each other; this one insults the other, and the other returns the insult, and so on, until Satan gets between them. So, upon whom is the sin of the insults and abuse exchanged by the two? It is upon the first one, the one who started it. Why? Because he is the one who opened the path of insults. If the first one had not insulted the second, the second would not have returned the insult to the first. From this, we take the danger of a person starting with evil, because he will be recorded with his own sin and the sin of whoever acts according to his action. Therefore, it came in the authentic hadith that every killing that occurs in the world until the Day of Resurrection, the sin of all these killings is recorded upon the first Adam who killed his brother unjustly and oppressively. Why did he (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
because he was the first one to kill لأنه أول مَن سَنَّ القتل
Sunan Ibn Majah 2616Sahih (Darussalam)
So this is a rule. And therefore, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, drawing attention to this rule and its counterpart, which is a good rule: he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever initiates a good practice in Islam, he will have the reward of it and the reward of whoever works by it until the Day of Resurrection, without anything being deducted from their rewards. And whoever initiates a bad practice in Islam, he will have the sin of it and the sin of whoever works by it until the Day of Resurrection, without anything being deducted from their sins.
, based on this rule:
And whoever initiates a bad practice in Islam, he will have the sin of it ومَن سَنَّ في الإسلام سنَّةً سيِّئةً فعليه وزرُها
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 12:118
