A Note on the Impermissibility of Importing Children's Toys from the Disbelievers, as They Carry Their Ugly Customs and Traditions.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Moving on from this topic to a new one, we will, as usual, recite its hadiths from the book *al-Targhib*. I wish to point out something that does not fall under this exception, even though it is contrary to what many people assume. The girls' toys about which a hadith permits them are only those made within the home. These idols and statues that come to our lands from the lands of disbelief, open sinfulness, and indecency under the name of children's entertainment are not among these permissible toys for young children. These toys are not made in our homes or our country, but rather in the lands of disbelief. These images do not contain the benefit of practicing sewing and the like that we mentioned regarding the images made in the home. Therefore, the reason for the exception of these images from prohibition does not appear. Moreover, these images carry with them the customs of the Europeans, the customs of the disbelievers, in terms of clothing, adornment, and the like. It is as if we are transferring these disbelieving customs to our daughters, while they are still young, so they become accustomed to them before they are tested with their own clothing. For example, she finds an idol image representing a girl wearing what is called in Arabic "al-tubban," meaning clothing without sleeves, such as a short or a kalsun. She sees this and may grow up accustomed to it and desire such clothing for herself, even if the custom and piety of her family do not support her wearing such clothing at this age. She grows up seeing these scenes, becomes accustomed to them, and later desires such clothing and adornment, which is not the adornment of Muslims. Therefore, I do not see that these idol statues that fathers buy for their children are among the images excepted from prohibition. This is what I wished to remind you of, and the reminder benefits the believers.
