There is a young man who is a relative of ours; his wife and her family have cast a spell on him so that they control him. What should we do for him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And peace be upon you.

The questioner : O Shaykh, may Allah preserve you, I want to ask you a question.

The Shaykh : Please, go ahead.

The questioner : I beg you, please, we have a relative and we are certain that a spell has been cast on him, and we do not know what to do, if Allah wills. We do not want to disobey the Lord of the Worlds, and how do we free him from this spell?

The Shaykh : How old is he?

The questioner : By Allah, he is a young man, about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old. The one who cast the spell on him is known, and she herself admitted to it.

The Shaykh : Okay, is he committed to his religion?

The questioner : If Allah wills, we consider him so. Frankly, he is not very committed, but he has been praying for a long time, since he was a young boy.

The Shaykh : Okay, so what do you notice in him?

The questioner : He does things without realizing it. He does things he does not approve of, and when you try to talk to him, he does not know what to say back to you; he just stays silent.

The Shaykh : You have not given me the answer. What does he do?

The questioner : What does he do? What is his job?

The Shaykh : No, no, I mean what is the phenomenon that you have observed in him?

The questioner : The phenomenon we object to is that his wife, for example, is uncovered and controls him greatly. He is unable to stop her, even though he is a man who prays. He is unable to cover her, unable to help her, and unable to control her at times. She does things that upset her family, and he cannot say no to her.

The Shaykh : Okay, what does this have to do with being under a spell? Many older men, let alone young men, have wives who control them. Does this mean that all of them are under a spell?

The questioner : Her mother is known for this practice. The mother of this young man’s wife is known for this, that she used to perform spells and that she still performs spells. The young man’s father is certain that a spell has been cast on him. He does not want to ask sorcerers or sheikhs, but he wants to know what can be done if a spell has indeed been cast on this young man, so that he can help him and return him to how he was before.

The Shaykh : Okay, how was he before? Was his wife obedient to him before, and was she not displaying her adornment?

The questioner : No, no, no.

The Shaykh : Then what is the connection between her displaying her adornment and her disobedience to him, and the fact that a spell has been cast on him? There is no connection. So tell me what strange thing happened between them. You keep bringing up an example that has existed from the beginning, which is that his wife is displaying her adornment.

The questioner : She is displaying her adornment and controlling him, O Shaykh. She controls him, and her family controls him, the young and the old. Even the young ones in her family control him.

The Shaykh : By Allah, I have no cure for this case except that first he should fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and maintain his religion and his obedience to his Lord. He should maintain the five daily prayers at their times, first, and then perform them in the mosques with the congregation, the congregation of the Muslims, second. Then, third and finally, he should acquire a book called *Sahih al-Kalim al-Tayyib* (The Authentic Good Word). It contains prescribed recitations and remembrances established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He should read these recitations on every occasion. For example, when he leaves the house, he says: "In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah," and so on. And when he enters the house, he enters in the name of Allah. And when he enters the bathroom and leaves the bathroom, and so on. There are recitations for every occasion. So note down for yourself a book called *Sahih al-Kalim al-Tayyib*. Let him acquire it and practice the recitations and remembrances found in it. And he should not be a slave to his wife. Let him command her to pray and to worship, so that things may be straightened out with him, if Allah wills. This is all I have; there is nothing else.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. And is there anything else, if Allah wills, that we should do, because...

The Shaykh : No, no, do not go to these sorcerers and false prophets. Do not go to them.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good. This is what I wanted to hear. May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you.

The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And peace be upon you.
