Drawing attention to moving the finger during the tashahhud, and explaining its manner

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The other issue is easier than the first. And peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. The other issue is easier than the first, but in any case, it is part of the guidance of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayers صلُّوا كما رأيتموني أصلِّي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
,
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayers صلُّوا كما رأيتموني أصلِّي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
. We, the people of the Sunnah and the followers of the righteous Salaf, and praise be to Allah, have been guided to a large portion of the guidance of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), especially what relates to his prayer (peace and blessings be upon him). Among that is that we move our finger during the tashahhud to affirm the oneness of Allah, because of our faith in Allah alone, with no partner for Him. We move our finger, but this movement is not random; it has a system, it has a system. So I hope you will pay attention first, and then observe its application second, in your prayers, in all your prayers. When one sits for the tashahhud, and I am assuming this now so that the brothers can see, this is the knee. One of us places his palm on the knee, then he clenches his palm. This is the first thing, and all of this is done quickly and in succession. He sits for the tashahhud, places his palm on his right thigh or right knee, clenches his fingers, points with the index finger, and raises it upright. He raises it upright. And here is the first point of attention: he raises it upright, meaning he faces the qiblah with it. He does not do it like this; that is a mistake. Your qiblah is like this, not toward the ground, but toward you, O worshipper. So you must direct your entire self toward your qiblah with your face, your chest, and even your feet. When you raise it, you should direct the toes of your right foot toward the qiblah. Likewise, when you raise the index finger, pointing to Allah that He is One with no partner for Him, you do it like this, not like this, or like this, as if he is shy, as if he is afraid of someone watching him, saying, "This man is a Wahhabi." No, we fear none but Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). So we raise it like this toward the qiblah, then we move it like this. This is what came in the hadith of Wa'il ibn Hujr, who said: "I saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) moving it, making du'a with it." As for what some do like this, this is called lowering and raising. No, there is no lowering and raising here. There is movement here. This lowering and raising has not come in any hadith, not even in a fabricated hadith. Rather, what came in the authentic hadith is: "I saw him moving it." So, first, when you sit, you clench your fingers, you raise the index finger, or better, the ring finger, then you direct it toward the qiblah, then you move it. And while you are moving it, you are facing the qiblah with it, facing, facing the qiblah with it. Not like this, lowering and raising, no. And not like this, keeping it low the whole time and moving it out of fear. No, by Allah, He is more worthy of being feared. This is what I wanted to remind you of. There are many, many issues, but this is sufficient. We entrust you all to Allah, and peace be upon you and Allah's mercy.
