What is the manner of moving the finger during the tashahhud?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: ... His EminenceThe Shaykh : To clarify for us the manner of moving the finger during the tashahhud?

The Shaykh: I have mentioned this more than once, reminding and warning you; the movement of the finger in the tashahhud does not involve lowering and raising. If this is the thigh and the top of the knee here, a person grasps his hand, circles his thumb and middle finger, and raises his index finger, directing it toward the qiblah. He does not do it like this; because in that state, he is throwing it from the ground to the ground. Rather, he directs it like this, if he erects it and then does not move it; he directs it toward the qiblah like this, not like that. Some worshippers keep their finger still like this; this is contrary to the Sunnah. The Sunnah is to direct it toward the qiblah. With this direction, there is no lowering and raising, as many worshippers do. This lowering and this raising have not come in any hadith at all. All that has come is what you know from the hadith of Wa'il ibn Hujr, may Allah be pleased with him:
And I saw him moving it, making supplication with it ورأيته يحرِّكها يدعو بها
. The movement may be done by some people like this; they place the bottom of their fist on their thigh and then do this; this is a deviation of the finger from the qiblah, this is a deviation. The hadiths state that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his finger toward the qiblah. It is not in any hadith that he places the bottom of his hand on his thigh. Rather, the hadith says the following: He said, "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat for the tashahhud, he placed his left palm on his left thigh, and his right palm on his right thigh." This palm is on the thigh. Then he grasped his fingers; I say "then" from my own addition; otherwise, he says, "and he grasped his fingers" like this. And he pointed with the index finger after circling with the thumb and middle finger. He said, "So I saw him moving it." The placement of the palm on the thigh necessitates that he not do it like this. Rather, he places the palm on the thigh, and does not place the edge of the palm and the sword of the palm on the thigh like this, but rather like this. Then he grasps the fingers, circles them, and directs his finger toward the qiblah. This is how the Sunnah came: directing the finger toward the qiblah with a movement not accompanied by lowering and raising. Whoever contradicts this has contradicted the Sunnah.
Please.

The questioner: Moving ...?

The Shaykh: From the beginning of the tashahhud to the end of the tashahhud.
Please proceed.
