If a person reaches the level of a scholar, does he still have doubts if a certain opinion appears to him—such as the prohibition of fasting on Saturday—that this opinion has not been preceded by others?

The questioner : Do you think that if a person reaches the level of a scholar, does this doubt remain? I mean the previous doubt that this statement—for example—will not be preceded by—for example—the Shaykh saying such and such; does this doubt remain?

The Shaykh : No, it does not remain.

The questioner : The doubt does not remain.

The Shaykh : This doubt does not remain for two reasons. The first is that if he searches, he will find it. The second is that if he searches and does not find it, he is addressed by the previous statement: "Not knowing a thing does not imply knowing its non-existence." How many claims of consensus on such and such have been made, only for the falsity of this claim to be established later, due to the difficulty of comprehending the statements of scholars? One of the most astonishing questions transmitted to me was from one of these students who said: "Allah has undertaken to preserve the Reminder:
Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ
[Al-Hijr 15:9]
We told him: Glory be to Allah! This is an argument against him. Allah has undertaken to preserve the Book and the Sunnah, but He has not undertaken to preserve the statements of scholars.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Look, everyone has an opinion of a certain kind.
