Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And they turned to one another, asking questions)
Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says: [Surat al-Tur: 25] Meaning: Some of them began to ask others, but with courtesy, speaking to one who is facing him, so he does not turn his cheek away from him nor turn his back on him, but speaks to him with courtesy and complete facing. (They said) Meaning: Some of them said to others, ((Indeed, we were before)) Meaning: In this world ((in our homes, fearful)) [Surat al-Tur: 26] Meaning: Afraid of the punishment of Allah, [Surat al-Tur: 27] (Bestowed) Meaning: Blessed us with a great blessing (and protected us from the punishment of the scorching winds) Meaning: The punishment of the Fire, [Surat al-Tur: 28] Meaning: Before I reached this station, and that was in this world [Surat al-Tur: 28] Meaning: We worship Him and ask Him;Because supplication is used in two meanings: Regarding worship, and regarding asking.
- So, regarding its usage for worship, the saying of Allah Blessed and Exalted is He: [Surat Ghafir: 60] .
-And as for supplication in the sense of asking, it is in the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Surat al-Baqarah: 186] .
So their saying: (Indeed, we were before, calling upon Him) includes the supplication of worship: such as prayer, charity, fasting, Hajj, dutifulness to parents, and maintaining family ties; all of this is supplication, even though it is worship. But if you asked the worshipper: Why do you worship Allah? He would say: I hope for His mercy and fear His punishment, so this becomes this worship in the sense of supplication. Likewise, we call upon Him with the supplication of asking; they do not ask except Allah, and they do not turn except to Allah; because they know that they are in need of Him, and that He is the One capable of everything.
[Surat al-Tur: 28] (The Most Generous) Meaning: The One vast in generosity and mercy, and from that is the term "bariyyah" for a place empty of buildings,And the meaning is: That He, Exalted and Majestic is He, is vast in giving, generosity, and bounty.
(The Most Merciful) Meaning: The One possessing the utmost mercy, with which He shows mercy to whom He wills of His servants, Blessed and Exalted is He.
So in these verses is the explanation of the bliss of the people of Paradise, and in them, when the punishment of the people of the Fire is mentioned, the bliss of the people of Paradise is mentioned; because this noble Qur'an is a repetition, in which meanings are repeated. When good is mentioned in it, evil is mentioned in it, and when the bliss of the righteous is mentioned, the hellfire of the disbelievers is mentioned, and so on, so that the person who reads the Qur'an is between fear and hope. If he reads the verses of bliss, he hopes, and if he reads the verses of punishment, he fears, so he worships Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, with both of these.
We ask Allah, the Exalted, to make us and you among the people of the Gardens, the saved from the depths. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says:
And they will approach one another blaming each other.
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَSo Allah bestowed upon us and protected us from the punishment of the scorching winds
فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَانَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِIndeed we were, [even] before
إِنَّا كُنَّا مِنْ قَبْلُWe used to call upon Him
نَدْعُوهُ- So, regarding its usage for worship, the saying of Allah Blessed and Exalted is He:
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.
وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ-And as for supplication in the sense of asking, it is in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
