The recommended practice of shaving the baby's head on the seventh day, and giving in charity the weight of these hairs in gold or silver.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... this is of that nature, and this is a rare matter to research... and I will conclude this gathering after I finish this word.
There is a recommended practice among the recommended practices that the majority of people have turned away from, except for those who are eager for the Sunnah; and that is that the newborn's head is shaved on the seventh day and weighed on the scale... the precise one... and charity is given in the weight of these hairs in gold or silver. Some people take the matter lightly, saying... what will we take... or something like that, what will come out, what will it be worth? Five pounds? Ten pounds? Twenty pounds, especially if he is wealthy... and the least we do is look in our pocket... No, this is not the Sunnah. The Sunnah is to shave the head, and to take this hair and weigh it. If it comes out to five pounds, you make it ten, there is no objection. But you know what is obligatory upon you, you must fulfill your obligation. Then if you want to add more, may Allah increase you. But doing it like this, by the handful, by the bundle, and so on, is not in Islam...
And this is sufficient, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
