The Recommendation of Shaving the Newborn's Hair on the Seventh Day

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The first message in this episode is from one of our brother listeners who preferred not to have his name mentioned. Our brother asks a collection of questions, one of which is: What is the ruling on not shaving the newborn's hair in the first week, and letting this hair grow as Allah wills? May Allah reward you with good?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Every boy is pawned against his 'Aqiqah, to be slaughtered on his behalf on the seventh day of his birth, his head is to be shaved, and he must be given a name.كل غلام مرتهن بعقيقته تذبح عنه يوم سابعه ويحلق ويسمى
Bulugh al-Maram 12:44
. So the recommended practice (sunnah) is to shave his head on the seventh day; this is the sunnah. Naming the child is also part of it, as is the 'aqiqah sacrifice, which is two sheep for a male child and one sheep for a female child. This is the sunnah, and it should be acted upon and implemented. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
