The first sign of the major signs of the Hour, which is the rising of the sun from the west.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: This hadith is like the previous hadith in that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) urges Muslims in it to hasten with righteous deeds before the signs of the Hour, as was explained in the previous hadith. However, this hadith details some of the signs that were not mentioned in the first hadith. He (peace be upon him) says:
Hasten to do good deeds (before) six things (happen): The rising of the sun from the west
Sunan Ibn Majah 4056Hasan (Darussalam)
.
The rising of the sun from the west is mentioned in the Noble Qur'an, as is well known. As for the day it rises from the west, faith will not benefit a soul that had not believed before. This undoubtedly requires a great deal of faith, especially among people who study modern science and astronomy and the like, and who are mostly—except for those whom Allah wills—adherent to the systems and laws they call cosmic or natural laws. Then they forget—and some deny—He who established them and organized them with this wonderful organization. So the rising of the sun from the west means overturning the system of this universe, without a doubt. This overturning is not acceptable to believe in except to the heart of every believer who believed in his Lord (Mighty and Majestic), and that He is effective in what He wills and what He desires, and creative as He wills and as He desires; as He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allah and high above what they associate with Him.
[Al-Qasas 28:68]
.
Moreover, the rising of the sun from the west is like the change of the system of this universe from its origin, as mentioned in many noble verses:
(1) When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] (2) And when the stars fall, dispersing, (3) And when the mountains are removed
[At-Takwir 81:1-3]
. All of this indicates that this universe, organized in this manner, will be dealt with by the Lord of the worlds in a way that changes in this universe whatever He wills of change, as He said:
[It will be] on the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], and all creatures will come out before Allah, the One, the Prevailing.
[Ibrahim 14:48]
.
So among the earliest indications of this radical change is the rising of the sun from the west. The One who causes it to rise every day from the east is not incapable of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) causing it to rise from the west, as a sign that this worldly life has ended. Therefore, the previous description came that the day the sun rises
no soul will benefit from its faith as long as it had not believed before
[Al-An'am 6:158]
.
This is the first of the conditions of the Hour, which the scholars agreed to call the conditions of the major Hour. The Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) says here:
Hasten with deeds before six things, the first of which is the rising of the sun from the west
; because the matter at that time is serious. The sinful Muslim, if he does not repent before its rising, his repentance will not benefit him. The disbeliever, if he does not repent from his disbelief, his repentance will not benefit him. And so on. So here, it is obligatory to hasten to repent from righteous deeds, and even more so, the disbelievers and hypocrites should hasten to return to their Lord and believe in their Islam.
