What is the meaning of (( MUTAWAFFIKA )) in His saying - the Exalted -

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: A verse - O Shaykh - from Surat al-Imran
O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself يَا عِيسَى إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ
[Ali 'Imran 3:55]
; what is the meaning of "mutawaffika" here?

The Shaykh: This verse is confusing to some people, and the reason is that it has become dominant in their understanding that "wafat" means death, and they do not return to the root of the word "wafat" due to their distance from the Arabic language and its literature. The root of the word "wafat" in the language is taking a thing in its complete state. So a person says, for example: "I have collected my debt." What does "I have collected my debt" mean? It means I took my debt in full and complete. So the root of "wafat" in the language is like this. In the verse, when people assume that the meaning of "wafat" is killing, they may interpret it as death. But here the intended meaning is taking Jesus as he is,
I am taking you unto Me إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ
as you are; that is: taking you with your body and your soul. The rest of the verse confirms this meaning:
and raising you to Myself وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ
, "raising you" is addressed to whom?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh: To Jesus with the soul and the body together. This is exactly similar to His saying - the Exalted - :
Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى
[Al-Isra 17:1]
the verse. They differed, both in the past and the present,
but they will not cease to differ. (119) Except whom your Lord has given mercy وَلَا يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ * إِلَّا مَنْ رَحِمَ رَبُّكَ
[Hud 11:118-119]
; was the Isra with his body - peace be upon him - and his soul, or with his soul without his body? There are two well-known opinions, but the correct opinion, in which there is no doubt or ambiguity, is that his Isra - peace be upon him - and his Mi'raj were with the soul and the body together. This verse indicates this meaning; because He said:
He took His servant أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ
, so His servant Muhammad - peace and blessings be upon him - about whom this verse informed is with the soul and the body; therefore
He took His servant أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ
He took Muhammad by his body and his soul; likewise the previous verse:
MUTAWAFFIKA مُتَوَفِّيكَ
; that is: taking you as you are and raising you as you are; therefore the correct opinion is that Jesus - peace and blessings be upon him - Allah - Mighty and Majestic - raised him to the sky with his body and his soul.
Then this was confirmed by the authentic, indeed the mass-transmitted hadith; where he - peace and blessings be upon him - said:
Jesus, the son of Mary, will surely descend among you as a just judge, and he will break the cross, and kill the pig, and make wealth abundant; so that no one will accept it, and the prostration of the believer will be better than the world and what is in it لَينزلنَّ فيكم عيسى بن مريم حَكَمًا عدلًا ، فيكسر الصليب ، ويقتل الخنزير ، ويفيض المال ؛ حتى لا يقبلَه أحد ، وتكون السجدة للمؤمن خيرٌ من الدنيا وما فيها
. So this one whom Allah raised to Himself with his body and his soul will also be brought down - likewise - with his body and his soul to judge between all people, the Muslims, the Christians, and the Jews, by the law of Allah, Islam. This is a prophetic miracle from beginning to end; He raised him as he is, and then He will bring him down as he is to judge by what he - peace and blessings be upon him - brought from the Book and the Sunnah.
Yes.

The questioner: There is a question ... .

The Shaykh: ... what are you moving.
Please proceed.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Welcome.
