A story that happened to Al-Albani with one of the shaykhs regarding the issue of the non-prescription of having multiple congregations in a single mosque that has a regular imam.

The Shaykh : We have many proofs and corroborating evidence in our old discussions before the spread of the Salafi call. I remember clearly one time when it was reported to some of the shaykhs, may Allah have mercy on them, that I said that it is not prescribed to have multiple congregations in a single mosque that has a regular imam and a regular mu'adhdhin. Our brothers know this issue, and whoever does not know it should ask those who do. I met him in front of the mosque. He said, "Do you say such and such?" I said, "Yes." He said, "How is that?" I said, "The imams said this," and I brought him the book *Al-Umm* by Imam al-Shafi'i, who is truly of the Shafi'i school. When I read the phrase to him, he said, "We do not take the words of the imam." I said to him, "Why?" He said, "Because imams came after Imam al-Shafi'i and studied his opinions, and they found in them the stronger and the weaker positions, so we take what they preferred." I wanted to draw his attention to what they accuse us of, so I said, "So in al-Shafi'i's words there is a stronger and a weaker position? Meaning there is correctness and error? And those who came after him clarified his correctness from his error?" The man was stunned by this surprise, then he twisted the subject and said, "We are Bajuri, we are not Shafi'i, we are Bajuri." This is the reality of all those who follow scholars blindly; today, neither the Hanafis follow Abu Hanifah, nor do the Shafi'is follow al-Shafi'i, and so on with the rest of those who follow scholars blindly.
So, since it is necessary to return to one's followed authority, our followed authority is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). This does not mean that we do not appreciate the words of the imams, but it means that we do not follow the imams for their own sake and their persons. As for the Messenger, we follow him for his own sake; so if he says a word, we do not question him in it at all. But if an imam from among the imams of the Muslims, let alone a shaykh from among the later shaykhs, says something, we are not of the school of those who say among the shaykhs: "Whoever says to his shaykh: Why? will never succeed." We say to him: Why? We say to any scholar who says something: Why? What is the evidence? What is the proof from the Book and the Sunnah? That is because we are commanded to follow the Book and the Sunnah.
So this is a distinguishing point and an important divider between us Salafis, who appreciate the imams, and those who follow them blindly, who also share with us in appreciating the imams, but in our belief, they give them a distinction that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has not given to any human being except Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
