How to rectify the inner self and the hidden aspects.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The honorable Shaykh saysThe questioner : You have taught us how to rectify the outward appearances, so how do we rectify our inner selves?

The Shaykh : Every person is the guardian of his own soul in rectifying his inner self, but among the causes of rectifying the inner self is that a person should always be with Allah, increasing his remembrance of Him and seeking His forgiveness. When committing sins, he should fear Him, and when performing acts of obedience, he should hope for His mercy. The important thing is that he should attach his heart to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), not to this world, its adornments, its pleasures, and its desires. Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
(14) Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return. (15) Say, "Shall I inform you of [something] better than that? For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and purified spouses and approval from Allah. And Allah is Seeing of [His] servants - زين للناس حب الشهوات من النساء والبنين والقناطير المقنطرة من الذهب والفضة والخيل المسومة والأنعام والحرث ذلك متاع الحياة الدنيا والله عنده حسن المئاب قل أؤنبكم بخير من ذلكم للذين اتقوا عند ربهم جنات تجري من تحتها الأنهار خالدين فيها وأزواج مطهرة ورضوان من الله والله بصير بالعباد
