Clarification of the status and ruling of those to whom the correct Islamic call has not reached.

The Shaykh : To be honest, I am saying something that, to the best of my knowledge, no one says today: I believe that among the Muslims today in the lands of Islam — let alone the lands of disbelief like Europe, America, the North Pole, and the South Pole — there are people to whom the call has not reached. What is the reason? Now, let us not go far; let us take Muslims in Syria or in Egypt, or here. But in Egypt, unfortunately, there are acts of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and idolatry at the shrines of "al-Husayn," "al-Sayyidah Zaynab," "al-Badawi," "al-Saltawi," and so on. Shirk is doing its work there, and the scholars of al-Azhar see it with their own eyes. They are two groups: one group knows that this is shirk and misguidance, yet they remain silent and quiet. The other group says: "No, there is nothing wrong with this; this is tawassul (seeking nearness to Allah through a means), tawassul to Allah, and so on." These common people who circumambulate the graves of these figures, slaughter animals, and make vows to them — has the call reached them? No, the call has not reached them, not at all. Despite the fact that we live in the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), what do we say about those who become Muslim in the West because an Islamic phenomenon appeared to them, which seized their hearts and drew them to Islam? They believed in it, but they are still drinking khamr (intoxicants), they may commit zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), they may display their adornment if they are women, and so on. Why? Because they have not yet learned or known the rulings of Islam. There is a verse in the Qur'an, and an incident occurred during the time of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him): "A group of the Companions were far from Madinah on a military expedition. They drank khamr and got drunk. The governor there wrote to him that so-and-so and so-and-so had drunk khamr. He ordered that they be brought to him. He asked them, 'What is your evidence?' They brought the verse. Help us remember it!"
The student : The verse about khamr?

The Shaykh : Not the one about its prohibition!
The student : No, it is
So avoid it. فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ
; meaning, carry it on your backs,
So avoid it. فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ
did they understand it as being carried
and for you in them are numerous benefits وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَافِعُ كَثِيرَةٌ
[Al-Mu'minun 23:21]
?

The Shaykh : No, there is a verse that indicates the permissibility of these forbidden things, while the other verses prohibit them. The verse is absent from my mind, is it?
The student :
Do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated لَا تَقْرَبُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَنْتُمْ سُكَارَى
in prayer.

The Shaykh : No, no, the point is that they argued with this verse. Perhaps it is:
Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be قُلْ لَا أَجِدُ فِي مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلَى طَاعِمٍ يَطْعَمُهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ
[Al-An'am 6:145]
.
The student : Carrion.

The Shaykh : That is the verse.
The student : It does not mention khamr, does it?

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student :
blood spilled out or the flesh of swine دَمًا مَسْفُوحًا أَوْ لَحْمَ خِنْزِيرٍ
[Al-An'am 6:145]
.

The Shaykh : That is the verse.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : They argued with this verse, so our master 'Umar excused them; because the verses prohibiting khamr had not reached them. So now I say: these were Companions to whom the verse prohibiting khamr had not reached; so what do we say about these disbelievers who enter Islam while still in their old misguidance regarding some of the legal rulings? It is not said that they are criminals or that they are open sinners, or so on, unless the proof is established against them. Therefore, the issue of the call and understanding the texts of the Shari'ah in a way that they correspond to one another and do not contradict or conflict is a very important matter.
The Shaykh : This man referred to denied this hadith:
Verily my father and your father are in the Fire. إنَّ أبي وأباك في النار
Sahih Muslim 203
; because he claimed that those who were before the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) were all from the people of the period of ignorance (al-fatra), meaning: the call had not reached them. Therefore, my question was: What makes you think that these are among those to whom the call had not reached? What is it, just? Unbridled emotions. What about the father of the Messenger?! The father of the Messenger is in the Fire?! Allahu Akbar!
