Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abu Malik: But in - Shaykh - the reasoning and commentary on the hadith:
let him say:'La ilaha illallah.' فليقُلْ : لا إله إلا الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 2096Sahih (Darussalam)
, the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him - when he ordered the one who swore by al-Lat and al-Uzza to follow his first statement with another statement, "There is no god but Allah," he did not distinguish between the one who forgot, the one who made a mistake, and the one who did it intentionally. So the hadith includes them all; because the one who did it intentionally might be ignorant, and if he might have made a mistake or might have forgotten, or his tongue or habit might have overcome him; therefore, the truth, for this reason, we say that the phrase: "There is no god but Allah" is not what returns him to Islam, but rather it is from the category of reminding him of what he should be upon regarding pure tawhid (the oneness of Allah) in its wording and its meaning.

The Shaykh: This is from the category of:
Have Taqwa of Allah wherever you are, and follow an evil deed with a good one to wipe it out اتَّقِ اللَّهَ حيثُما كنتَ ، وأتبِعِ السَّيِّئةَ الحسنةَ تمحُها
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1987Hasan (Darussalam)
.
Al-Halabi: Shaykh, is it not said something else, especially since the hadith has a beginning and a start, which is the saying of the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - :
Whoever says to his companion: Come, let us gamble, let him give charity, and whoever swears by al-Lat and al-Uzza, let him say: There is no god but Allah مَن قال لصاحبه : تعالَ أقامِرْك فليتصدَّقْ ، ومَن حلف باللات والعزى فليقُلْ : لا إله إلا الله
, so the statement came out like an expiation?

The Shaykh: Yes, this is ... .
I think the answer is clear, if Allah wills.
