Interjection regarding the hadith: (Whoever swears by al-Lat, let him say: There is no god but Allah).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Abu Malik: But, our Shaykh, commenting on the hadith of
let him say:'La ilaha illallah.' فليقل لا إله إلا الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 2096Sahih (Darussalam)
the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), when he ordered the one who swore by al-Lat and al-Uzza to follow his first statement with another statement, "There is no god but Allah," he did not distinguish between the one who did so out of forgetfulness and the one who did so intentionally. The hadith includes them all, because perhaps the intentional one is ignorant, and he may be mistaken, or he may be forgetful, or his tongue or habit may overcome him. Therefore, the truth is that we should say that the phrase "There is no god but Allah" is not what returns him to Islam, but rather it is a form of reminding him of what he should be upon regarding pure tawhid (the oneness of Allah) in its wording and its meaning.

The Shaykh : This is of the nature of
and follow an evil deed with a good one to wipe it out وأتبع السيئة الحسنة تمحها
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1987Hasan (Darussalam)

Al-Halabi: Our Shaykh, is it not said that there is something else, and that the hadith has a beginning and a first part, which is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Whoever says to his companion, "Come, let us gamble," let him give charity, and whoever swears by al-Lat and al-Uzza, let him say: There is no god but Allah. من قال لصاحبه تعال أقامرك فليتصدق ومن حلف باللات والعزى فليقل لا إله إلا الله
So the statement came out like an expiation?

The Shaykh : That is it.
