The Poor

The Shaykh : The poor are those who do not find their sufficiency, meaning they do not possess money or salary sufficient to meet their needs, such that they possess less than half of their sufficiency. For example, if a man has a salary of one thousand riyals but needs two thousand riyals every month, how much of his sufficiency does he currently possess? Half. If he has a salary of eight hundred riyals and needs one thousand eight hundred riyals for his expenses, he is poor. He is given from the zakah what completes his expenses for one year. So how much do we give him in this example? One thousand riyals every month, that is, twelve thousand riyals in the year.
