Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ever, even once, combine intentions in a single act, such as the intention for the greeting of the mosque and the sunnah of the two rak'ahs of wudu?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I have four Syrian pounds for you. I told you: "Here are two pounds for this, and two pounds for that"; it means you have failed.

The Shaykh : No, by Allah, that is not what it means.

The questioner : Here, what does it mean that I intend two rak'ahs for the greeting of the mosque now, entering the sunnah of i'tikaf with the greeting of the mosque, with the sunnah of wudu, with the sunnah of Zuhr?

Another questioner : They are earning good deeds from the Lord of the Worlds.

The questioner : Eight rak'ahs. Is this established? I mean, did the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ever, even once, intend the two together? Or did he say:
If anyone of you enters a Mosque, he should not sit until he has offered a tworak` at prayer. إذا دخل أحدكم المسجد فلا يجلس حتى يصلي ركعتين
Sahih al-Bukhari 1167
.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : He did not say to combine two with two with two. And now, in fact, when one enters the mosque, the greeting of the mosque with the sunnah of wudu, with i'tikaf, with Zuhr, Allahu Akbar, and that is it, you are done.

Another questioner : This is divine generosity.

The questioner : This is reality, this is a matter of generosity; we need something from it.
...

The questioner : What is your evidence for this? Our question is not about the generosity of the Lord of the Worlds; we know that Allah is generous.

The Shaykh : Yes, when we told you the evidence, you did not stop to address the evidence; you sat there throwing doubts. I am telling you.

The questioner : ... doubts. I want something from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he did, even once. That is the question.

Another questioner : Be patient.

The Shaykh : I have not finished my speech.

The questioner: Go ahead.

The Shaykh : When I brought you the saying of the Messenger:
Actions are only by intentions إنما الأعمال بالنيات
, you did not stop there. Tell me: How do you derive a ruling from it? Instead, you kept going, "round and round," it never ends. Why did you not stop at this hadith and address it, saying, for example: How did you derive a ruling from this hadith? It seems to be in your mind.

The questioner : I asked you about the evidence, I am telling you.
...

The questioner :
Actions are only by intentions إنما الأعمال بالنيات
.

The Shaykh: What am I telling you?

The questioner : ... the way of deriving a ruling from this hadith is that it is permissible to do two, four, and six.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is how you should ask, that is how you should ask.

The questioner : I did not, I, this is what I...

The Shaykh : You did not ask this question.

The questioner : This is what I want now, now I have clarified my question to you.

The Shaykh : There is no power nor strength except with Allah!

The questioner : ... I made a mistake, Professor.

The Shaykh : My brother, do you know the hadith of the Messenger (peace be upon him) which says:
If My slave intends a good deed and does not do it, write for him one good deed. And if My slave intends a good deed and does it, write for him ten good deeds, up to a hundred good deeds, up to multiplied multiples. And Allah multiplies for whom He wills.
to the end of the hadith? Because we are witnessing this here. So this Muslim man entered the mosque, and he intended to pray four rak'ahs: two rak'ahs, like I and you want, two rak'ahs purely for the greeting, and two rak'ahs purely for the sunnah of Zuhr, the sunnah of the time. But for some reason, the smallest and most insignificant reason, the man did not feel like praying four rak'ahs. Rather, he approached the way of that Bedouin: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I do not add to them or subtract from them." I say: he approached it because he added; he went to pray two rak'ahs other than the obligatory prayer. So he intended, with what he was about to do, to pray two rak'ahs for the greeting of the mosque, and he also intended the sunnah of the time. He actually only prayed one prayer. Therefore, when we detail the speech on this issue, we say: The one who prayed two rak'ahs purely for the greeting and two other rak'ahs purely for the sunnah of the time; this is rewarded according to the text of the previous hadith, which is:
If My slave intends إذا همَّ عبدي
. He is rewarded for the first prayer with ten good deeds, at the very least, and the second prayer with ten, at the very least. What is the total? Twenty. But it is not so for the man who prayed only two rak'ahs with two intentions. This is rewarded with ten plus one, just the intention alone.
Therefore, when we want to detail and classify, we say: The highest rank is every act of worship for itself; the sunnah of the greeting or the obligation of the greeting for itself, and the sunnah of Zuhr for itself. The total good deeds of the two prayers is twenty or more.
Second rank: One who prays two rak'ahs with two intentions. The total reward, at the lowest rank, is eleven good deeds. The last thing in the matter is one who prays two rak'ahs with one intention, for which he gets ten good deeds. But some people imagine that he who prays two rak'ahs with two intentions is like the one who prayed four rak'ahs, two and two, with twenty good deeds. No, they are not equal. But instead of losing the good intention, he prays two rak'ahs with the intention of the greeting, for example, only. No, he intends another intention for which a good deed is written for him. And this is from the favor of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).

The questioner : ... sixteen, he did this.

The Shaykh : He did two rak'ahs, he did in two rak'ahs.

The questioner : So, since he did not do it, a good deed was written for him.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : A good deed.

The Shaykh : If he did not do it.

The questioner : I intended to pray it, but I did not have time and I limited myself to the two rak'ahs. This can be said, your saying, that two will be written for me because there was no time, I shortened the time, and I was intending to do these four and time was short for me; I did two. This is correct.

Another questioner : Allah is generous.

The questioner : ... from His generosity and favor; this is correct, but if you were not in it.

The Shaykh : O Abu Yusuf, who will intend this intention?

The questioner : I am telling you the story...

The Shaykh : Who will intend this intention? Other than the one who has this awareness and this feeling?

The questioner : If you permit, what was our disagreement in the matter? Perhaps you sent us a paper in this matter, look, do you remember it or not?

The Shaykh : I do not remember.

The questioner : A man prayed Fajr with me, he stood up and prayed two rak'ahs after the Fajr adhan, and a moment later he stood up and prayed two other rak'ahs. I said to him: My brother, what is this prayer? He said: Two rak'ahs for the greeting of the mosque and two rak'ahs for the sunnah of Fajr. I said to him: No, my brother, a sound hadith says (peace and blessings be upon him):
When the dawn breaks, there is no prayer except the two rak'ahs of Fajr. إذا طلع الفجر فلا صلاة إلا ركعتي الفجر
. So the man was satisfied. And here you are forbidding the greeting of the mosque, no? My brother, I have a definitive text:
When the dawn breaks, there is no prayer except the two rak'ahs of Fajr. إذا طلع الفجر فلا صلاة إلا ركعتي الفجر
. First, combining in two rak'ahs for Fajr, we do not have that, except for the two rak'ahs of Fajr or an exception.

The Shaykh : ... exception.

The questioner : Yes, no, leave the exception, that is not my intention. So they went to the right that at all times, this Shaykh, after every adhan, prayer is necessary, like this. And the text is in my house and I need it.

The Shaykh : ... prayer what...?

The questioner : From the prayer of the greeting of the mosque.

The Shaykh : Yes, correct.

The questioner : In every adhan. We said to him: My brother, I have an exception, and I am the one who forbade it, and I forbade it in the case of... a man who prayed four rak'ahs after the Fajr adhan, and I have a text that forbids it. He said no, we brought a text from Shaykh Nasser that after every adhan, prayer for the greeting of the mosque is necessary. I said to him: My brother, either he limits himself to two rak'ahs for the greeting of the mosque, this is other than Fajr, or to the prayer.

Another questioner : Why other than Fajr?

The questioner : Yes, why? Because Fajr has a definitive text.

Another questioner : Yes, and 'Asr has a text.

The questioner : What did 'Asr say?

Another questioner : There is no prayer except...

The questioner : Who said? Who prayed four rak'ahs,
May Allah mercy on a person who prays four Rak'at before the 'Asr prayer. رَحِمَ الله امرأً صلَّى أربعًا قبل العصر
Bulugh al-Maram 2:263
a sound hadith.

Eid Abbasi : There is no contradiction.

Another questioner : Why did you jump us here?

The questioner : Perhaps your research is different from my research.

Another questioner : Be patient.
