Marriage to the Granddaughters of a Wet Nurse

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Marriage to a Brother’s Sister through Breastfeeding

Question: I wish to marry a girl, but my brother was breastfed by her mother. Is this permissible for me?

Answer: There is no harm in your marrying your brother’s sister through breastfeeding, as long as you were not breastfed by her mother. She is not forbidden to you. Even if she is your brother’s sister through breastfeeding, as long as you were not breastfed by her mother and she was not breastfed by your mother, it is not forbidden for you to marry her or her sister.
It is only the daughters of his wet nurse that are forbidden to your brother. All the daughters of his wet nurse are forbidden to him, but you have no connection to that.
[Marriage to the Granddaughters of a Wet Nurse]

Question: I was breastfed by a woman, and this woman has granddaughters. Is it permissible for me to marry one of her granddaughters, meaning her daughters’ daughters? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer: If you were breastfed by a woman with a complete breastfeeding of five feedings within the two-year period, then you are her son through breastfeeding. Her daughters are your sisters through breastfeeding, and her daughters’ daughters are the daughters of your sisters through breastfeeding. Thus, you are their maternal uncle through breastfeeding. Therefore, it is not permissible for you to marry her granddaughters, meaning her daughters’ daughters, because they are the daughters of your sisters through breastfeeding, and you are their maternal uncle. And Allah knows best.
