Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself)]
His saying, the Exalted: [Al-A'la: 14] This sentence is a verbal sentence affirmed by (qad) : [Al-A'la: 14] And success is a general term intended to mean salvation from what is disliked and attainment of what is loved.
And his statement: [Al-A'la: 14] That is: the one whose outward and inward self are purified, so his inward self is purified from shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), from doubt, from nifaq (hypocrisy), from enmity toward the Muslims, from hatred for them, and from other things from which the heart must be purified, and his outward self is purified from letting his tongue and limbs run wild in aggression against the servants of Allah (Mighty and Majestic); so he does not backbite anyone, does not talebear to anyone, does not curse anyone, and does not aggress against anyone by striking, denying a right to property, or otherwise. Thus, tazkiyah (purification) is a general term encompassing purification from every impurity, whether outward or inward.
