Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
Your Eminence, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen! May Allah guide you! I ask your Eminence to clarify what is obligatory for a woman whose husband has died to do during the waiting period, and what she is obligated to avoid?
And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The woman whose husband has died must avoid the following during the waiting period: First: all beautiful clothes that are considered adornment.

Second: Adorning herself with any type of jewelry, whether in the ear, on the arm, on the head, a necklace, or the like; this includes all types of jewelry.

Third: Applying kohl; she must not apply kohl, neither at night nor during the day.

Fourth: Beautifying herself by reddening her lips or otherwise; it is not permissible for her to do any of that.

Fifth: Leaving her house except for a need or dire necessity.

Sixth: Using any type of perfume, except that if she becomes ritually pure, she may use some incense to perfume the area where a smell has arisen from her private parts and the surrounding area.

The questioner: And if she has epilepsy, where she suffers from seizures, is it permissible for her to go out?The Shaykh: I said: She must not leave the house except for a need or dire necessity.
