[The Meaning of the Statement That the Qur'an is an "Attribute"]
O Shaykh! May Allah reward you! There is a man who says: The Qur'an is an attribute; what is the meaning of this word? The Shaykh: The man who told you that the Qur'an is an attribute, why did you not ask him: What is the meaning of attribute? The questioner: He says that by it is meant that the Qur'an comes to mind through memorization during the time of prayer when a person recites the Qur'an in the tarawih,So he says: it is an attribute, or something close to this statement; but I did not understand the meaning of attribute?
You must ask him, does he mean by attribute a quality,Meaning: that it is one of the attributes of Allah, in which case this is correct; because speech is the speech of Allah, and the speech of Allah the Exalted is one of His attributes, or does he mean something else, we do not know.
So it is obligatory to ask this man for clarification,And he is told: If you mean by your statement: attribute, that it is one of the attributes of Allah, that He spoke with it (Mighty and Majestic) and revealed it to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) through Jibril, then this is the truth.
And if he intended another meaning, then that intended meaning must be examined.
