There is a group among us who do not differ from us much in acts of worship, but their main differences are in transactions, and the establishment of hadith with them is not through the chain of narration

The questioner : In fact, right now in the Indian subcontinent, the Quranists who completely deny the Sunnah are these Quranists, and their leader is Ghulam Ahmad Parvez. But our problem is with the people of the Sunnah... They pray our prayer, they fast our fast, and in acts of worship they do not differ from us. But in matters related to transactions or social affairs, they differ in many issues. Then, their knowledge of hadith is not through the path of narration. They test a report from a single narrator, or... a hadith. They test a hadith against the Qur'an, in their claim. And every hadith, whether it is fabricated or weak, if it matches the Qur'an in their claim, they say this is authentic. What contradicts the Book, whether it is hadiths from al-Bukhari or al-Muwatta, they say this is weak. Therefore, most of the books refuting them are about al-Bukhari, Muslim, and al-Muwatta. Then the problem is that they call this methodology the "defect" of the hadith. Is this the "defect" of the hadith? I mean, testing the hadith against the Qur'an, testing the hadith.

The Shaykh : Are they with us? We left the first group, the Quranists, aside, and we are now discussing the second group, these people. I say about these people: Are they with us in faith in the saying of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever says something about me that I did not say, let him take his place in Hell. مَن قال عليَّ ما لم أقُلْ فليتبوَّأ مقعده من النار
Musnad Ahmad 469Hasan (Darussalam)
Are they with us?

The questioner : They are with you.

The Shaykh : Good, are they with us in that, based on this hadith, it is not permissible to attribute to the Prophet a hadith that has not been established for us that he said it?

The questioner : Yes, yes, they say this.

The Shaykh : I say no, I say no, otherwise they would be contradictory. Now I say, some of them said: Eating eggplant is lawful. What is the ruling on this hadith with them?

The questioner : I do not know, I mean, what do they say about this hadith.

The Shaykh : You do not know, correct, but their principles, their principles.

The questioner : Yes, their principles say we tested this against the Qur'an.

The Shaykh : I understood, we tested the saying of the one who said, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Eating eggplant is lawful أكل الباتنجان حلال
We tested it against the Qur'an
Eat from the good things with which We have provided you. كُلُوا مِنْ طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ
[Al-Baqarah 2:57]
They say this hadith is authentic, do they or not? This is a point I raise against them.

The questioner : Yes, yes.

The Shaykh : This is a point I raise against them, so what do you think they will say? You say I do not know. I say you must know, and there is no blame on you. You must know because you rely on their principle in your knowledge, and you do not fabricate against them, but you attribute to them what is implied by their stance. The implication of their stance is: this is our trade, it is returned to us. Ah, so your saying, and may Allah reward you with good, "I do not know," comes from your heart. But I want you to hold them to the contrary of their school. Eating eggplant is lawful, we tested it against the Qur'an, it is very authentic because many verses support this statement. Therefore, he (peace be upon him) said it. So their answer is either they say as I said, "I do not know," or they say it is authentic. If they say "I do not know," they have refuted their principle. And if they say "I do not know," they have refuted their principle because it agrees with the Qur'an, so why did you not say it is authentic? And if they say "No, this is not authentic," why is it not authentic... Is there another way to know what is authentic from the Messenger other than the Qur'an? They return to us, despite their noses. Perhaps my words are clear?
The student : What Allah willed.
The student : Clear, may Allah bless you. In fact, we would have liked to benefit fromThe Shaykh : much, but due to his health conditions, we wronged him with these questions.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good.
The student : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good.
