What is the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((We offered it))? Is not the offering from Allah? How then did the heavens, the earth, and the mountains refuse to carry the trust?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A questioner says: Your Eminence, what is the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
We offered it عَرَضْنَا
? Is not the offering from Allah? How then did the heavens, the earth, and the mountains refuse to carry the trust?

The Shaykh : We offered it to them; He, Glorified and Exalted is He, did not command them to do so. He offered it to them and said: Will you carry it or not?
and they declined to bear it فَأَبَيْنَ أَنْ يَحْمِلْنَهَا
[Al-Ahzab 33:72]
. The offering does not mean a command. If Allah the Exalted had commanded these heavens, the earth, and the mountains, they would have obeyed. There is a difference between an offering and a command. Yes.
