Ruling on trimming eyebrow hair out of necessity
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! A person is harmed by the length of his eyebrow hair; this is because it sometimes falls into his eyes, and he is hesitant to thin it or remove it because of the report: cursing the one who plucks her eyebrows and the one who has them plucked.
So what is your guidance regarding this?
Our guidance for this is that there is no harm in trimming from his eyebrows what shades his sight and vision. The scholars of Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that he used to take from his eyebrows.
So if he trims what harms him, there is no harm in it and no issue with this. The plucking mentioned in the hadith: It is plucking the hair and thinning it. As for a person simply taking what is excess of the hair, so that it does not obstruct his sight, or to repel its harm by falling on the eye, there is no issue with its permissibility.
The questioner himself: Regarding the cursing, is it specific to the woman or is it general?Answer: It is general, but it was mentioned regarding women because that is the common case. The common case is that the one who practices plucking is women. Otherwise, it applies to men and women. In fact, it may be said to be more severe for men; because the one who plucks his eyebrows is imitating women when he plucks.
