Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (Indeed, to your Lord is the return)
Then Allah the Exalted said, threatening this tyrant: [Al-Alaq: 8] Meaning: the return. No matter how much you transgress, become arrogant, be haughty, or consider yourself self-sufficient, your return is to Allah Mighty and Majestic. As Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said: [Al-Ghashiyah: 23-26].
And since the return is to Allah in all matters, no one can ever escape the decree of Allah, nor the reward of Allah and His justice.
And his statement: (Indeed, to your Lord is the return) Perhaps we can say: it is broader than the warning and the threat.Meaning: It includes the warning and the threat, but it may include what is broader. So the meaning is: Indeed, to Allah is the return in everything. In religious matters, to what is the adjudication? To the Book and the Sunnah: [An-Nisa: 59] And in cosmic matters, to whom is the return? To Allah: [Al-Anfal: 9] So there is no return for the servant except to Allah. All matters return to Allah Mighty and Majestic, who does what He wills. Even the wars, trials, and evils that occur among people, it is Allah who decreed them, but He decreed them for a wisdom. As Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah: 253].
Therefore: [Al-Alaq: 8] It contains a threat to this human being who transgressed when he saw himself as self-sufficient regarding his Lord. And in it is also what is more comprehensive and broader: And that the return is to Allah the Exalted in all matters.
Then Allah the Exalted said, threatening this tyrant:
Indeed, to your Lord is the return
(23) However, he who turns away and disbelieves - (24) Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. (25) Indeed, to Us is their return. (26) Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
To the Book and the Sunnah:
And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger
[Remember] when you asked help of your Lord, and He answered you
If Allah had willed, those [generations] succeeding them would not have fought each other after the clear proofs had come to them. But they differed, and some of them believed and some of them disbelieved. And if Allah had willed, they would not have fought each other, but Allah does what He intends.
