Seeking the Night of Decree
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
We have previously said: That the Night of Decree is in Ramadan is beyond doubt, but in which part of Ramadan is it? In the beginning, the middle, or the end?We say in answer to this: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed i'tikaf (spiritual retreat in the mosque) in the first ten days, then in the middle ten days, seeking the Night of Decree. Then it was said to him: It is in the last ten days, so he performed i'tikaf in the last ten days.
Therefore: So the Night of Decree is in the last ten days of Ramadan. And on which night of them? Allah knows best; it may be on the night of the twenty-first, or on the night of the thirtieth, or in between. No specific determination has come for it on a certain night every year. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was shown the Night of Decree on the night of the twenty-first, and he saw in a dream that he would prostrate in water and mud in the morning of that day.So the sky rained that night, meaning: On the night of the twenty-first, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) prayed in his mosque, and his mosque was made of palm branches, which did not prevent water from seeping through the roof. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrated in the morning of that day, meaning: in the Fajr prayer, in water and mud. And the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) saw the mark of water and mud on his forehead. So on that night, it was on the twenty-first.And with that, he said: (Seek it in the last ten days),And in a narration: (In the odd nights of the last ten days).
And the Companions saw it in one of the years in the last seven nights. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (I saw that your visions agreed in the last seven nights, so whoever is seeking it, let him seek it in the last seven nights), meaning: in that year. As for the remaining years, it is in all ten nights. It is not fixed, but the most likely night is the twenty-seventh. It may be, for example, the twenty-seventh night this year, the twenty-first night the next year, the twenty-fifth night the year after that, and so on.
