Your Eminence! A man from the residents of Makkah was able to perform Hajj, but he did not perform it,And he would delay Hajj and say: until the following year, when he died. So, is Hajj performed on his behalf?
The correct view is that it is performed on his behalf if he was intending to perform Hajj but was lazy. However, if he was intending to leave it, it is not performed on his behalf; rather, it remains a debt in his record, and he will be punished for it, if Allah wills. This is the detail that brings peace to the soul. But let it be known that Hajj is an immediate obligation, and it is not permissible for one who is able to perform it to delay it,because of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al Imran: 97], so He conditioned it upon the ability to perform it. Thus, whenever the ability is present, Hajj becomes obligatory.
