Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 1375 )
Q1: May I perform Hajj on behalf of my two parents who died without the obligation of Hajj falling upon them due to their poverty, even though I intended to perform Hajj? Therefore, I seek the ruling of the Shari'ah in this matter.
A1: It is permissible for you to perform Hajj on behalf of your parents yourself, or to appoint someone to perform Hajj on their behalf, provided that you have performed Hajj for yourself, or that the person performing Hajj on their behalf has performed Hajj for himself; for Abu Dawud narrated in his Sunan from 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
heard a man say, “ Labbaik on behalf of Shubruma." He asked who Shubruma was, and the man replied, “A brother of mine," or “a relative of mine." He asked whether he had performed the pilgrimage on his own behalf, and when he replied that he had not, he said, “Perform the pilgrimage on your own behalf, then perform it on behalf of Shubruma."سمع رجلاً يقول: لبيك عن شبرمة، قال: من شبرمة ؟ قال: أخ لي، أو قريب لي، قال: حججت عن نفسك؟ قال: لا، قال: حج عن نفسك، ثم حج عن شبرمة

, and it was also narrated by Ibn Majah, and al-Bayhaqi said: This is a sound chain
of narration, and there is nothing sounder in this chapter. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
