The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: (So remind, if the reminder benefits)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
[The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: (So remind, if the reminder benefits)]

His command, may He be Exalted, to remind, so He said:
So remind, if the reminder should benefit;فَذَكِّرْ إِنْ نَفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَى
[Al-A'la: 9] means: Remind the people by reminding them of the days of Allah, remind them of the verses of Allah, and admonish them.
if the reminder should benefit;إِنْ نَفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَى
[Al-A'la: 9] means: In a place where the reminder is beneficial; and on this basis, (if) is conditional,And the meaning is: If the reminder benefits, then remind, and if it does not benefit, then do not remind,Meaning: There is no benefit in reminding a people whom you know will not benefit from it. This is what was said regarding this verse.

And some scholars said: Remind in all circumstances, for the reminder is beneficial for all these people. Thus, the condition here does not intend that one should not remind unless it benefits,Rather, the meaning is: Remind if these people are ones for whom reminding is beneficial.

So the meaning, according to this view, is: Remind in all circumstances. And the reminder will benefit; whom will it benefit? It benefits the believers, and it also benefits the one who reminds. So the one who reminds benefits in all circumstances, and the one who is reminded, if he benefits from it, is a believer, and if he does not benefit from it, that does not diminish the reward of the one who reminds in any way.

Therefore: We remind whether the reminder benefits or not.

And some scholars said: If one thinks that the reminder will benefit, it is obligatory, and if one thinks that it will not benefit, he has a choice: if he wishes, he reminds, and if he wishes, he does not remind,But in all cases, we say: Reminding is necessary, even if you think it will not benefit, for it will benefit you, and the people will know that this thing which you reminded them of is either obligatory or forbidden. And if one remains silent while the people are doing what is forbidden or leaving what is obligatory, they will say: If this were forbidden, the scholars would have reminded us of it, or if this were obligatory, the scholars would have reminded us of it. So reminding is necessary, and spreading the Shari'ah is necessary, whether the admonition benefits or not.
Then Allah the Mighty and Majestic mentioned who will be reminded and who will not be reminded, and we will speak about that, if Allah wills, in the next meeting so that we have more time for questions.
