The Ruling on Seeking Intercession with the Sanctity of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Honorable Shaykh! Is it permissible to say about a man’s grandchildren if they do a good deed: This is from the blessing of your ancestors.
By claim: That the ancestors are the ones who directed them to Islam, or by following up this supplication with the sanctity of so-and-so or the sanctity of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), is this permissible?
As for seeking intercession with the sanctity of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), such as saying: O Allah, I ask You by the sanctity of Your Prophet with You, that is a religious innovation, and it is not permissible to seek intercession through that; because the sanctity of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is specific to him and does not extend to others,But instead of this, he says: O Allah, I ask You by Your Greatest Name, or I ask You by Your perfect attributes, or the like of that,Or he says: I ask You by my faith in Your Prophet, if one wishes to mention the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in supplication, by my faith in Your Prophet or my love for him, or the like of that.
As for the blessing of the ancestors, there is no doubt that if he means physical blessing, i.e.: merely that they became your ancestors and thus the blessing came, this is not permissible. But if the blessing is from the effects of their guidance and upbringing, this is a reality. A person may have blessing for his children and family in guidance and education, or he may not have such blessing. And Usayd ibn Hudayr said when the verse of dry ablution was revealed due to the confusion over the knot of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), he said: [This is not the first of your blessings, O family of Abu Bakr] .
Meaning: He means that your causes are that you become a cause for matters that are beneficial for the Muslims.
