[The ruling on shortening the prayer for one who travels a distance of (90 km)]
We live about (90 km) away from the city of Buraydah, and we attend classes daily at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. We face hardship, as Allah knows best, especially on the return trip. Since we attend daily, should we shorten our prayers?
I see that you should not shorten your prayers; because this going back and forth is not considered travel, since you break your fast at your homes and have lunch at your homes. So what I see is that you should not shorten.
Some scholars who measure travel by distance hold that the distance for shortening is about [81 km] or [83 km]. According to this opinion, you would be considered travelers, and it is permissible for you to take the dispensation; but I do not see that you should do so. So complete the prayer, and the issue, praise be to Allah, is just two extra rak'ahs, which is easy and does not harm the person.
