Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (The Companions of the Trench)]

Then Allah the Exalted said:
Cursed were the companions of the trenchقُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ
[al-Buruj:4] (Qutila) means: they were destroyed,And it was said: The word "killing" here means cursing, which is expulsion and distance from the mercy of Allah. The Companions of the Trench were a group of disbelievers who burned the believers in the fire.
Several stories have been reported about these people, some in the Levant and some in Yemen. The point is that these disbelievers tried to turn the believers away from their religion, but they were unable to do so, so they dug a trench—Meaning: an elongated trench—in the ground like a river, and they gathered a great deal of firewood and burned the believers—seeking refuge in Allah—And for this he said:
[Containing] the fire full of fuel,النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ
[al-Buruj:5] meaning: the trench is the trench of the fire (with fuel) meaning: the great deal of burning firewood.
