Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (When they were sitting over it)]

Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Buruj: 6] Meaning: These people who dug the trenches and threw the believers into them had, may Allah protect us from such, cruelty and tyranny. They watched the fire devour these humans while they sat over it, joking and laughing as if nothing had happened—may Allah protect us from such. This is part of their tyranny: to see a human being devoured by fire while sitting there, making light of the situation with conversation and not caring: [Al-Buruj: 7] Meaning: They were witnesses to what they were doing to the believers,Meaning: present, with nothing of what they did to the believers hidden from them. Therefore, they deserved this warning; indeed, they deserved this punishment, that Allah destroyed them, cursed them, expelled them, and distanced them from His mercy.
