Ruling on taking money for ruqyah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Many of the Sufis—and they have no knowledge—sit to perform ruqyah to earn a living from it. They impose a portion of money on the patient before and after the treatment. Is this action permissible on their part? And if some students of knowledge follow their example, what do we say to them?
This issue has become common among us. As for the Sufis and the Sufi practitioners, praise be to Allah, our country is, if Allah wills, free from this. However, earning a living through ruqyah has become very widespread, and the people doing it are of a status that Allah knows best regarding their righteousness. But the believer who wants to benefit his brother, and who is the one who recites, if he is given something he takes it, and if he is not given, he does not ask. This is what causes Allah the Exalted to place a blessing in his ruqyah. As for the one who makes the Noble Qur'an a means of earning a living, he has bought the world with the deeds of the Hereafter—and may Allah protect us from that—and he has no share in the Hereafter. This issue has, in reality, reached a large scale now, and it should be addressed by the authorities in the state.
