The Ruling on Relying Solely on Audio Tapes in the Pursuit of Knowledge
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
We came only out of love for you in Allah, and peace be upon you, and to check on your health, and to seek knowledge and sit with you.And my question regarding this topic is: What is your opinion on traveling to scholars and sitting with them? Do you encourage the youth to do so?Because I heard some people say: Is it sufficient to listen to the tapes, and there is no need to travel?
First: May Allah reward you. (Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise), and Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah—one of the Companions—traveled to 'Abd Allah ibn 'Anas to learn a single hadith from him, spending a month on camels.
So traveling to seek knowledge, even for a single issue, carries great reward and good. And traveling to visit the brothers and to spread affection and love—there is no comparison between the one who sees and the one who hears, and news is not like witnessing. So when you come to a man and see him, it is far more impactful than if you had only heard about him. This is also a great good. So, if Allah wills, you have reward for your travel for the sake of greeting, and for your travel for the sake of knowledge.
