The issue of condolence and the excesses in it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Regarding the issue of condolence, people go to extremes. You find that when someone dies among the people, food is prepared and slaughtered animals are brought. And when we say that, they say: People visit, and they say, "Shall we not provide them with breakfast?" Likewise, when we speak to them about sitting for the condolence,They said: Where do we receive the people?
We have a small paper on the rulings of condolence and what is related to it. If you take something from it, it will be beneficial. Condolence is not a congratulation, as one congratulates a person who has arrived. The purpose of condolence is that when we see a person who is afflicted and affected, we speak to him in a way that eases the calamity for him. That is the intended meaning. So we say to him, for example, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to one of his daughters: "Be patient and seek reward, for Allah has taken what He took and given what He gave, and everything with Him is by a specified term." There is no need to gather in the house, for gathering in the house is contrary to the way of the righteous Salaf.Until they said: We used to consider gathering at the deceased's home and preparing food to be part of wailing, and wailing is among the major sins. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who wails and the one who listens to her.
But if we hear that a person among the people is affected by the death of a relative, or a friend, or something similar; We strive to reach him and say: [We say to him:] "Be patient and seek reward." As for merely gathering when a relative dies, and people gathering, and perhaps lights being lit, and we bringing reciters, this is not permissible. People, until recently, did not do this at all. When a person died, once they finished burying him and saw his brother or father affected, they would console him and return to their families. Then, whoever found him in the market or in the mosque would console him. As for gathering, there is no doubt that it is a religious innovation, and that it is forbidden, especially if it is accompanied by lamentation. As if the women gather and say: And [they say], "By Allah, this was such and such, this is the head of the family, this is the owner of the house, who is for the family, who is for the house," and the like. This becomes forbidden lamentation. It is incumbent upon students of knowledge to make the people see the truth before the tear becomes too large for the patch.
