A husband’s gift to one of his two wives without the other

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: A man has two wives, and it is customary among us that the one who gives birth is given a gift by her husband after the post-natal bleeding ends. Is he required to give to both wives if one of them gives birth, or does he give only to the mother? May Allah reward you with good.
The basic ruling is that he is not required to give to the other one who did not give birth. Likewise, if the other one who did not give birth later does give birth, he gives to her and not to the second one. Justice is to be equal between them in giving.Meaning: If he gives the one who gave birth first one hundred, he gives the other one hundred when she gives birth. He is not required to give to her before she gives birth. However, if he fears problems and sees that giving to both of them whenever one gives birth will prevent problems, that is good and falls under the category of reconciliation.
