The second question of Fatwa No. ( 15435 )
Q 2: I entered the mosque to pray the midday prayer, and I found a man praying the voluntary prayer after the midday prayer. I want to pray the obligatory prayer, so is it permissible
for me to follow him, meaning: pray with him, or is it not permissible for me to do so?
A 2 : It is permissible, according to the correct opinion, for one who enters the mosque and the people have already prayed and finds a man praying a voluntary prayer, to enter with him with the intention of the obligatory prayer; because Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pray with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and then go and pray with his people, so it would be the obligatory prayer for them and a voluntary prayer for him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved him. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
